Lack of access to older evidence via the published literature -- does this present a safety issue?

I saw this recent study and thought a bit on how it might influence patient safety.

I guess I see that an unintended consequence of this trend could be falure to find the best stuff for patient care and research. One of the factors in the Johns Hopkins research gap that resulted in the death of a healthy trial subject was lack of identification of older, yet relevant materials.

So shouldn't this trouble us?
